Amazing Stop Motion With Post-it Notes

A few years ago I got very interested in stop motion filming after seeing some amazing videos that took months to create. Around this time I made a short clip myself for a project in first year and I learned that there is a lot more work and planning involved than meets the eye. Obviously this video took a good few full days to capture and probably as long to arrange and edit. It shows how we can trick the eye intro thinking something is moving if we put enough frames together one after the other. It's the exact same principle as early animation except we use our bodies and objects in our environment instead of drawing something with slight differences each page.

I would be interested in trying to create something similar to this but using different subject matter. So many things must be taken into account however - lighting must be constant to keep the illusion and the location must not have too many other things happening as it will quickly become apparent that there are large time differences between each picture.

Dog Time-lapse

The other day I thought it would be cool to film my dog for the day while I'm out of the house for a long period of time. I found a few videos of people that have captured their dogs like this but there is not too much on the subject. It is quite interesting to see their movements over the long period of time and the patterns that emerge. I think it could we worth doing a time-lapse on myself as I sleep sometime too.

Car Park Time-lapse

A few people have taken time lapse footage of car parks, but it is something that you don't see too much of. The thing I find most interesting about this is the shadows at the beginning and then the end. They really do seem life like and you get a completely different impression of them when seen from this perspective. It is also good to see the patterns that emerge as the car parks fill up and empty out, something we would never really seen in any one instant.

Kinect's Night Vision Secret

This video shows the amazing technology going on in the Xbox 360's 'Kinect' motion sensor. Using a night vision camera we can see all the infrared spots coming from the device that are used to detect are persons location in front of the screen.

I think this may be an area that could be explored as an art form, ie using infrared lights to create art that can only be seen in nightvision

Time-lapse Across Country

Here is a pretty cool music video that I have just come across. Obviously a lot of footage is edited out otherwise it would never fit into the 4 minute time frame, but it gives an interesting insight into how the world can change over time with very little perceivable movement from the people in it.

Elevator Time Lapse

I found this quite interesting as it really puts a different perspective on human behavior over a long period of time. It was fascinating to see how restless and then how motionless the person was at certain times.

I feel this is an important piece of footage as there are not many circumstances where one person is the main focus for such a long period of time. None of this behavior could be examined if it was various different people going about their business over the course of a day.

Finally, I find the music in this video to be quite important. It really creates a mood and gives a sense of complete helplessness for the individual as he realizes he is trapped. If there was some form of 'comical' or even up beat, up lifting music playing over this, it would look like something from a practical joke show.

Early Morning on Higashi-Kantō Expressway

This is some footage of a drive on the Higashi-Kantō Expressway in Japan. I discovered this because it is going to be a drivable route in the new Gran Turismo 5 game coming out later this month.

Firstly, I think anything at that hour of the morning looks beautiful. Seeing it get brighter and brighter over time is also quite magnificent and I find a moving time lapse like this quite interesting. I may do something similar on a car journey of my own someday soon and speed it up to see if I can achieve something like this.
